AFFRIC KINTAIL WAY FUNDING UPDATE

AFFRIC KINTAIL WAY FUNDING UPDATE

Firstly best wishes to everyone for 2022 and let’s hope we can get back to some semblance of normality this year. With the new year comes the fantastic news that we now have the funds in place to complete Phase 2 of the AKW reroute! The funding package has taken a great deal of time to put in place following completion of Phase 1 almost a year ago. Thanks to the following organisations: Scottish Government’s Improving Public Access Scheme, SSE Renewables Highland Sustainable Development Fund, Soirbheas and theHighland Council Ward Discretionary Fund.

Many thanks to the people behind these organisations who have helped and guided us along the way. Also thanks is due to the members in the small group that has been working on the project over the years: Sandra Reid, Sue Mann, Brad Collins and Pam Lucas (co-opted from Glenurquhart Community Council). It is hoped work will begin in March (weather and pandemic permitting) with a view to completion by the end of August.

We are still keeping our crowdfunding appeal going as a contingency against unseen hidden costs. Please be assured any contributions from the public will be used on the AKW – additional facilites such as viewpoints etc. will enhance the project.
